Position Description:

Oakcrest Farmers Market (OFM) is a small farmers market opening for its inaugural season in July 2018. The market will be held on Fridays, 3:00 - 7:30 pm, July 6 - September 7.  

We are seeking a qualified, highly motivated intern for the 2018 season.  The OFM Intern will work closely with the market managers, market volunteers, on-site staff, and community organizations.  The OFM Intern will be involved with all aspects of the market’s operations.

Roles and responsibilities will include:

  • Oversight of SNAP/WIC incentive program

  • Management of Market Welcome Booth

  • Assistance with fundraising and market promotion

  • Community engagement activities such as tabling events, attending community meetings, etc.

  • Assistance with volunteer recruitment and coordination

  • Event planning and coordination including sampling, classes and childrens activities

  • Writing articles and posts, including for social media, website, and newsletter

  • Assistance with general at-market needs, including set-up and break-down

  • Additional projects, depending on the candidate’s interests and qualifications

Location and Hours:

The OFM Internship will require approximately 15-25 hours per week from May through September. Start and end dates are negotiable. These 15-25 hours will include:

  • Attendance at 10 weekly markets. Intern is generally needed on site by 1:30 pm and until 8:30 p.m. on Fridays, July 6 - September 7

  • At least one 1-2 hour meeting per week to go over fundraising, outreach and marketing, special event planning, plan for future markets

The intern is welcome to work from any desired space, but office space will be available at the IPHI Largo office: 1401 Mercantile Lane, Largo, MD 20774.


The intern will be provided with a $1500 stipend, to be disbursed on a bi-weekly basis.



Qualified applicants will exhibit the following characteristics:

  • Interest in food, agriculture, and small business

  • Highly organized

  • Strong communication skills

  • Effective research and writing skills

  • Ability to operate within a changing, entrepreneurial environment

  • Comfortable speaking to a variety of audiences

  • Access to a vehicle or transportation

  • Must be 18 years or older

  • Access to a computer
